Home / About SDA

Singapore Democratic Alliance (known as "SDA" in abbreviation and "新加坡民主联盟" in Chinese) was formed in 2001 for 4 different opposition parties to stand as a united front against the ruling party. The 4 parties were Singapore People's Party (SPP), National Solidarity Party (NSP), Singapore Justice Party (SJP) and Singapore Malay National Organisation (PKMS).

The initial founding Chairman was Mr. Chiam See Tong, who was also the leader of SPP ex- Member of Parliament (MP) of Potong Pasir.

In 2007, NSP decided to withdraw from the party; in 2011, SPP made its exit from SDA as well.

By 2013, the party was being led by Mr. Desmond Lim Bak Chuan.  SDA now consists of a group of dedicated locals with determined leaders who are focused on creating a better future for Singaporeans, by doing what the people would like them to do rather than merely advocating what they believe they could do for the people.

  1. Dear Sir/Madam,
General election is coming. Hope that you will not send a weak team contested in the past few elections at Pasir Ris/Punggol GRC again, getting less than 30% electoral votes. This means 1 out of 3 vote.
In the past 3 GE, the best outcoming was about 1 out of 3 vote for SDA. If there is no better candidates available, please give a chance to other opposition parties else you are helping the PAP elected MPs to slack on the well-being of the GRC and giving a bad reputation for SDA, some may consider SDA as puppet party for PAP.
In my opinion, every constituency should have about 40% / 60% ratio for pro & con on the government policies implemented till present viewed by people.
For the past 3 GE, SDA has not even achieved the popularity of at least 40% electoral votes, then I think it is time for SDA to let go as I do not see any creditable SDA candidates in the coming future.
The brand name of SDA is of the past as Mr Chiam See Tong is no longer around.

    Regards,
    Yeow Seng
